Every gym we'd ever joined had the same trap: a 12-month contract, an initiation fee, and a cancellation process designed to make you give up and keep paying.

We hated it. So when we built Lift ATX, we did the opposite.

The model

$50/month. Month-to-month. No contract. No cancellation fee. Cancel by email on the day you want to cancel. Effective that same day. No runaround. No retention hoops. No “let us transfer you to a retention specialist.”

Why this works (as a business)

People assume no-contract means less revenue. It doesn't. It means members stay because they want to, not because they're trapped. Trapped members cancel the second their contract ends. Happy members stay for years.

The math: if you deliver a great experience, people stay. If you don't, they leave — and you find out fast, which means you can fix it fast.

The retention trap most gyms fall into

Most gyms build their business model on the assumption that most members won't show up. They sell 1,000 memberships, bet that 800 won't come, and pack the floor for the 200 who do.

We don't do that. We want the people who show up. We want the 4AM crew, the lunch-break lifters, the weekend warriors. If you're here, we want you here. If you're not, we don't want to charge you for not being here.

A membership you can cancel anytime is a membership you choose to keep.

The signup fee (and why we waive it)

We charge a one-time $25 signup fee. It covers the admin of getting you set up — access, orientation, the basics. But we waive it for military, veterans, first responders, students, and educators. Because some people deserve a break, and a gym should recognize that.

The takeaway

Contracts are a tax on people who don't read the fine print. We don't believe in taxing our members. We believe in earning their membership every month — and if we stop earning it, they should be free to go.

That's the philosophy. That's the model. That's why we built it that way.
